White Christmas

Every year around this time. White Christmas has to be watched. I love this film:

After leaving the Army after W.W.II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Davis plays matchmaker and introduces Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters (Betty and Judy) who also have a song-and-dance act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, is the lodge owner. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue as the performers try to help the General.

Great Quotes:

Phil: I want you to get married. I want you to have nine children. And if you only spend five minutes a day with each kid, that's forty-five minutes, and I'd at least have time to go out and get a massage or something.

Phil: Give me one reason, one good reason, why we should spend our last two hours in Florida looking at the sisters of Freckle-Face Haynes, the dog-faced boy.
Bob: Let's just say we're doing it for an old pal in the army.
Phil: Well, it's not good, but it's a reason.

Phil: It's cozier, isn't it? Boy, girl, boy, girl.

Judy: We're booked for the holidays.
Phil: Vermont, huh?
Judy: Oh, Vermont should be beautiful this time of year, with all that snow.
Phil: Yeah, you know something... Vermont should be beautiful this time of year, with all that snow.
Judy: That's what I just said.
Phil: We seem to be getting a little mixed up.
Judy: Maybe it's the music.
Phil: Maybe it isn't only the music.

Bob: Miss Haynes, if you're ever under a falling building and someone offers to pick you up and carry you to safety, don't think, don't pause, don't hesitate for a moment, just spit in his eye.
Betty: What did that mean?
Bob: It means we're going to Vermont.

 Phil: How much is "wow"?
Bob: It's right in between, uh, "ouch" and "boing".
Phil: Wow!

Phil: We like to take care of our friends.
Betty: But we're practically strangers!
Phil: Uh, we like to take care of that too.
Betty: But I don't understand. Why are you doing this? I mean, what's in it for you?
Phil: Forty-five minutes all to myself.

Judy: [to Phil] You are not exactly Superman, but you are awfully available.

My favourite bits from White Christmas:

-The whole musical start up of old films

-That Bing Crosby reminds me of my late grandad

-Sisters song and the blue fluffy fans

-Judy and Bettys dressing gowns

-The waterside bar

-The snow scene on the train

-Pinetree Vermont - is that not the most gorgeous sounding place to stay at christmas?

-Sandwiches and buttermilk round the fire

-Counting your blessings:

 When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings

I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads

And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds
If you're worried and you can't sleep
Just count your blessings instead of sheep
And you'll fall asleep counting your blessings

-When General Waverly comes in to the room and everyone starts clapping

-Opening the big doors to see snow and a horse and sleigh

-The gorgeous red christmas outfits - i so wanted one as a little girl, i had a white hand muff which i loved,

-The cute little blonde ballerina

-I'm dreaming of a white christmas

xx

Do you know, I love old films but White Christmas is just so boring! I once had to prop my eyes open to get through it, waiting for the good bits to arive. The good bit (there is only one) arived right at the end and was the song, which is lovely. The rest of it was a huge horrible yawn. I was so disappointed and very very tired by the end of it.
